Birth Registration ApplicationNew Zealand applicants, please follow this link. This birth registration process is applicable to newborn children AND all other persons, irrespective of age. Birth Registration and passport application takes approximately 12 months to be finalised. One of the parents of the child must be a South African citizen * at the time of birth to enable the child's birth to be registered in South Africa. Children born out of wedlock may be registered by the mother as sole parent. If the child born out of wedlock is to be registered in the father's name, paternity must be acknowledged on form DHA-24. No errors or amendments are acceptable on the forms. Clear print, in black ink, is required. The following documentation must be submitted:
There is no fee for the Birth Registration and the first birth certificate is issued free of charge. Forms, except Form DHA-24 and BI-9 may be downloaded from www.sahc.org.au. To obtain the DHA-24 Birth Notification form and BI-9 finger print form (for late birth registrations only) please email your request to: (Please quote the name and date of birth of the child) Applicants from Australia immigration.canberra@foreign.gov.za or Applicants from New Zealand consular@sahcwellington.co.nz or Wellington@foreign.gov.za NB: Quote the childs/applicants full name, surname and date of birth as well as the postal address in the email. Payment must be in Australian Dollars (AUD) made out to the "South African High Commission" by way of Postal Money Order or Bank Cheque. Personal cheques or credit cards are NOT accepted. ONE bank cheque or Postal Money Order for the total amount / whole family is preferred.
